FCAT Awards Proposal

Objective:
Provide grants directly to students to encourage them to improve their FCAT performance.

Plan:
Focus on 10th grade students' performance in Reading & Math, and on 11th grade students' performance in Science.

Details:
Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) will be given to students in March 2009.

• 10th grade students took the FCAT for Reading & Math in March 2008 when they were in 9th grade
• Offer grants to those students who:
  • Improve their performance the most between March 2008 and March 2009 in Reading & Math
  • Attain the highest scores in Reading, Math and Science in March 2009
• Schedule of awards (20 awards costing $2000)
  • Most Improvement and Highest Scores - $200 for 1st, $100 for 2nd, three grants @ $50 for 3rd and 4th
• High school will publicize the program with posters and announcements
• FCAT results will be available in June 2009
• Generate list of winners during summer 2009
• Grants will be announced and money distributed in October 2009
  • Do this at cafeteria seating's (there are two of them) so that all students can hear of program and results
  • Alumni representative can be involved
  • Provides incentive for next group of students (if we decide to continue the program)
